On March 12, 2024, Finance Minister Éric Girard tabled his budget plan for 2024-2025, which aims to prioritize health and education.
Investments totalling $8.8 billion over the next 5 years have been announced. The most significant of these are aimed primarily at health and education, through funding for health and social services, education and higher education. Other investments are also planned to support citizens and communities, particularly seniors and retirees. In addition, sums will be allocated to act on economic priorities, notably to support strategic sectors and economic growth, increase the available workforce and productivity in the construction industry, while maintaining efforts in the area of sustainable development.
In the current economic context, the government has chosen to maintain the objective of returning to balanced budgets gradually, by 2029-2030 at the latest.
