Understanding payment periods
Each Canada Emergency Benefit (CEP) payment covers a 4-week period, with the first period beginning March 15, 2020. When you apply, it’s a one-time payment covering a 4-week period. If your situation continues, you can apply for another 4-week period, up to a maximum of 16 weeks (i.e. 4 periods in total).
What are the payment methods?
The ECP will be paid by direct deposit , or by cheque if no direct deposit information is on your file.
When to expect payment
- If the benefit is paid to you by direct deposit, you should receive it within 3 business days of the date you applied.
- If the benefit is paid to you by cheque, you should receive it within 10 working days of the date on which you made your claim.
Reapply every 4 weeks
You’ll need to apply and confirm your eligibility for the Canada Emergency Benefit (CEP) every 4 weeks if your situation continues.
