REVENU QUÉBEC TO BE FLEXIBLE FOR INDIVIDUALS AND BUSINESSES

Revenu Québec is closely monitoring the evolution of the pandemic in Quebec, and has taken note of the decisions announced by the Quebec government regarding the hard-hit regions. It is sensitive to the concerns of Quebecers, and to the impact the pandemic may have on the population. This is why it is important to reiterate that the organization will demonstrate flexibility, understanding and diligence in its approach to its customers, given the exceptional context affecting certain regions and various sectors of economic activity.

As announced during the first wave of COVID-19 last spring, Revenu Québec continues to adapt its audit, inspection and collection activities.

In addition, Revenu Québec is announcing that it is extending, to December 31, 2020, the deadline for filing claims for refundable tax credits for businesses, the non-refundable tax credit for international financial centers, the non-refundable tax credit for e-business development, and claims for the deduction of expenses incurred for scientific research and experimental development, where this deadline would otherwise have expired after March 16, 2020 but before December 31, 2020.

In addition, Revenu Québec would like to remind citizens and businesses of the following relaxation measures:

  • In the area of collections, we invite taxpayers to contact us at any time, particularly if their financial situation prevents them from paying the amounts owing immediately in a single instalment. If they meet certain eligibility criteria, they can take advantage of an installment plan to help them meet their tax obligations voluntarily.
  • As far as tax preparers are concerned, the relaxation of the electronic signature requirement has been extended indefinitely.
  • Customer relations centers remain open to meet the needs of citizens and businesses, and to support them through these difficult times.
  • Revenu Québec will continue to give priority to the processing of tax refunds and credit applications to which taxpayers are entitled.

Deadline: September 30

Furthermore, in the wake of the easing measures announced in recent months, the organization reminds us that individuals as well as corporations and trusts have until midnight tonight to pay their tax balance.

Finally, Revenu Québec encourages individuals who have not yet done so to file their tax returns as soon as possible, so that they can benefit from the social and tax programs to which they are entitled, notably the solidarity tax credit.

Revenu Québec continues to monitor the situation closely, and will adapt if necessary. For more information, please visit our website.
