At this time of year, let’s all take the time to take stock of ourselves, review what we’ve accomplished throughout the year, and plan for the new year ahead.
Set your goals!
So much has already been said and written on this subject, and yet this function is still too often neglected. The task may seem daunting at first glance, but it’s through honest, critical review and realistic goal planning that we pave the way for achieving even more than we thought we could at first glance.
Setting goals is like planning our travel itinerary: choosing our destination, taking on challenges, following through on our ambitions, and simply having fun! Without a clear path, it’s a bit like letting our boat sail with the wind and the waves, without really knowing where it’s going, but increasing the risk of running aground.
Some people say it’s good to “let go”. Personally, I think there’s a big difference between “letting go” and “letting go”…
So, to help us set our individual goals, project yourself into the future, visualize where you want to be in the coming year, and establish simple processes. I think this is a great way to achieve our goals. Let’s let our imaginations run wild and create a work of art to showcase our success and future achievements.
To help us choose the right lenses, here are a few ingredients:
- A goal must be MEASURABLE
- A goal must be high enough to be STIMULATING, while remaining REALISTIC.
- An objective must be accompanied by a TIMEFRAME so that we can measure it over time.
The greatest danger is often associated with setting a goal that is too optimistic, or fits into too tight a timeframe. Let’s be conscientious in setting our goals, because poor indicators can actually lead to abandoning the journey. Let’s not forget that a mountain is climbed one step at a time!
To help us design our work of art, let’s draw up our list beforehand, taking into consideration what we want to achieve on a personal and/or professional level:
- Desired projects
- Sales and/or profitability targets
- Personal and/or professional development
- Challenges to meet
- A performance to achieve
- The growth of a team, a company or a business sector
- Let your imagination and your heart go wild!
Once the objectives have been identified, if we find that some of them are quite imposing, let’s take the time to break them down into more succinct goals. Aiming to achieve them will be more stimulating and accessible.
Let’s make them a priority! Not everything can be accomplished overnight.
It’s essential to put everything down on paper. In this way, what we initially perceive as intangible now becomes tangible.
Last but not least, let’s keep an eye on our trip every day! In fact, let’s take the time to revisit our work of art, our dashboard, and adjust it if necessary. An itinerary can be modified according to circumstances and opportunities!
In the end, the secret of great success lies in the addition of small successes.
